In a disturbing incident in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, it has been reported that 125 houses constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana have been illegally occupied by members of the Muslim community. The Housing Board had built 400 residences in 2013, distributing 335 houses to families in need and locking the remaining 65. However, outsiders allegedly broke into these locked houses and took residence.

Alarming details reveal that not only were 60 families forcefully evicted from their assigned residences, but the illegally occupied houses were also converted into mosques, tombs, and sites for exorcisms. Domes were constructed, giving the buildings an Islamic identity. A tomb-like structure was reported on houses numbered 199 and 200, allegedly occupied by an individual named Zakir Khan, with claims that Rohingya and Bangladeshi Muslims reside in the area.

Locals express concerns over the unlawful occupation of approximately 125 properties and note a steady influx of strangers. BP Singh, Chairman of the Housing Board Colony, highlights the issue, stating that anti-social elements gather under the tomb-like structure, and demands have been made to the administration for its removal.

The Municipal Corporation Administration has been urged to verify the identities of those residing illegally, particularly individuals without voter IDs or ration cards. Municipal Corporation Executive Engineer Suresh Barua emphasizes the wrongness of altering the construction of the Prime Minister’s residence scheme, and unauthorized constructions will be demolished after issuing notices to the occupants.

In addition to the housing crisis, the incident sheds light on a case of Love Jihad, where a 13-year-old girl was deceived by an individual named Imran and taken to Uttar Pradesh. Police efforts, supported by Hindu organizations, led to the girl’s rescue on February 10, 2024, while the accused, Imran, remains at large. Police are actively investigating the matter, filing a FIR in the ongoing inquiry.
