The Assam Government has taken decisive action in response to the Dudhnoi gang-rape case. The administration demolished the house of one of the accused on June 30, 2024, following a promise of stringent action by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

The incident, which occurred on May 3, 2024, involved the alleged gang-rape of two minor Hindu girls from the Janajatia community in Dudhnoi, Goalpara district. The accused, identified as Dhan Talukdar, Bahar Ali, and Rahman Ali, reportedly dragged and raped the girls.

Following the assault, members of the Village Defence Party (VDP) went to Dhan Talukdar’s home. However, Talukdar and his family attacked the VDP members, resulting in serious injuries to a Hindu youth named Hiranmay Khaklari, who later died.

The crime and subsequent attack shocked the entire state of Assam, prompting widespread protests throughout Goalpara district. The police responded quickly, arresting the three accused and several of Talukdar’s family members.

True to his promise, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma ensured strong action was taken against the accused. On June 30, 2024, the administration, supported by a police force, arrived in the Dudhnoi area with bulldozers and demolished Dhan Talukdar’s illegal house.
