BJP Candidate Rekha Patra Manhandled by TMC Muslim Goons [Basirhat, West Bengal]

Tensions escalated in Basirhat as BJP’s candidate, Rekha Patra, faced a violent altercation while visiting the Kharivanga area to meet with injured BJP activist Kalidas Bachar. The incident occurred amidst ongoing clashes between Trinamool Congress (Muslim Goons) and BJP activists.

Accompanied by local BJP leader Archana Majumdar and security personnel, Rekha Patra encountered opposition from a group of Trinamool Congress activists (Muslim Goons) upon her arrival. Eyewitnesses reported that the situation quickly turned hostile, resulting in a scuffle between the two political factions. Trinamool Congress activists (Muslim Goons), including women, attempted to attack Rekha Patra and Archana Majumdar with sticks, leading to injuries.

Describing the attack as unprovoked, Archana Majumdar criticized the police for their failure to intervene effectively. Rekha Patra condemned the violence, questioning the humanity of the perpetrators and accusing the Trinamool Congress of instigating unrest in the area.

In contrast, local Trinamool Congress leaders claimed that the scuffle was a spontaneous response from villagers and women against Rekha Patra’s alleged attempts to incite tension in the area. They accused BJP activists, including Kalidas Bachar, of initiating violence on Monday, which escalated further with Rekha Patra’s visit on Tuesday.

The Union government’s decision to provide Rekha Patra with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) security highlights the escalating tensions and concerns over political violence in West Bengal. With several BJP candidates receiving CAPF security amidst ongoing clashes, the situation underscores the need for enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of candidates and prevent further escalation of violence.
