Hindu Procession Attacked, Saraswati Idol Broken, Houses Ransacked [Darbhanga, Bihar]

Tensions escalated in Darbhanga, Bihar, on February 15th when a Hindu procession carrying a Saraswati idol for immersion was attacked while passing through Kasai Mohalla (Butchers’ Colony) in Muriya, Bhalpatti OP sector. The incident, occurring on the festival of Basant Panchami, involved an Islamist mob pelting stones, vandalizing the area, and breaking the Saraswati idol.

As the Hindu procession moved peacefully for idol immersion in Tarasarai Muria Tola, individuals in the Muslim-dominated Kasai Mohalla area began pelting stones, leading to clashes. The miscreants not only damaged the Saraswati idol but also ransacked several houses in the vicinity.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, a substantial number of security forces from the district police promptly arrived to restore order. District Magistrate Rajeev Roushan and SSP Jagunath Reddy rushed to the spot to assess the situation and ensure the completion of idol immersion.

Darbhanga District Magistrate Rajeev Roushan stated, “Efforts are being made to identify the miscreants. Strict legal action will be taken against such miscreants.” He explained that the clash originated from a disagreement over the route for idol immersion, and talks were conducted with both parties to de-escalate the situation.

SSP Jagunath Reddy mentioned that the incident resulted in injuries due to stone pelting, but the situation was brought under control with the deployment of BMP district police and personnel from various police stations.

This incident follows a similar attack in Darbhanga on January 22nd when stones were thrown at the Shri Ram Shobha Yatra. The administration is actively working to identify and take strict action against those responsible for the attacks.
