Devastating Diwali Night for Afghan Hindu [Hounslow, London, UK]

In a devastating incident on Diwali night, a house fire in Hounslow, west London, claimed the lives of five members of an Afghan Hindu family, including three children. Seema Ratra and her children perished in the blaze, while their father, Aroen Kishen, survived and is currently hospitalized. Another family member remains unaccounted for.

The fire erupted at 10:20 pm, engulfing two floors and the roof of the house. Despite the efforts of seventy fire engines present at the scene, the blaze continued until Monday morning. Neighbors reported hearing Mr. Kishen’s desperate cries for his children.

While the cause of the fire remains unknown, a neighbor dismissed speculations that Diwali fireworks were to blame. The tragedy occurred near Heathrow airport, and a fellow resident, Felicia Matei, described the chaotic scene, stating, “It was a big fire. I screamed to my family and said we need to run away.”

Some residents in the area noted that Diwali fireworks were exceptionally loud, with flames flickering on trees and the whole area shrouded in smoke. Chief Superintendent Sean Wilson termed it a “terrible incident,” emphasizing that the London Fire Brigade would tirelessly investigate the tragedy.
